Subsidies Available for Replacement of Old Household Air Conditioners and Refrigerators

Nishitokyo City has declared its goal of becoming a zero-carbon city. Households can reduce their CO2 emissions by switching to room air conditioners and refrigerators that meet energy-saving standards. You can reduce your electricity bills as well.
To receive a subsidy for the replacement of air conditioners and refrigerators, it is necessary to submit an application prior to purchase. Applications can be made until January 31, 2024. See here for details: https://www.city.nishitokyo.lg.jp/kurasi/kankyo/ondanka/josei/hozyo/kaden.html

Applications for Child Benefits (Child-Raising Allowance and Disabled Child Allowance)

The new fiscal year for these subsidies begins in June. If you are not receiving a benefit at present but think you are entitled to one because your income or number of dependents have changed, you are advised to submit an application anew.
Applications can be submitted from May 1 (Monday) to 31 (Wednesday). In the case of applications submitted in or after June, payment will begin in the month after the month in which the application is made.
Please take your application in person to the Child-Raising Support Section (City Office Tanashi 2nd Building 2F)
□Child-Raising Allowance
Eligibility: This allowance is paid to a parent who is divorced or in an equivalent situation and is raising a child/children aged 18 years or under. The monthly allowance is 13,500 yen per child.
□Disabled Child Allowance
Eligibility: This allowance is paid to a person raising a disabled child aged under 20 with a grade 1–3 mental disability certificate (Ai no Techo), grade 1–2 physical disability certificate, etc. The monthly allowance is 15,500 yen per child.

Archaeology from a Scientific Perspective

The Jomon period of Japanese history began about 16,000 years ago and lasted for around 10,000 years. What did people eat at that time? Participants will investigate types of vegetation from the dents left in earthenware (containers made from earth).

(1) 11:00–12:30 (2) 14:00–15:30
Place: Tamarokuto Science Center
Eligibility: (1) Junior high school students and over (2) Elementary school students (4th grade and over)
Capacity: 12 persons in each session (Persons who have not applied will not be able to enter the venue.) If there are many applications, participants will be chosen by lottery.
Fee: Adults 520 yen; 4th grade elementary – senior high school students 210 yen (center admission fee)
Application: Via website or send a postcard with name of event, date and time, your name, age (students), postal code, address, and phone number to the Tamarokuto Science Center (5-10-64 Shibakubo-cho, Nishitokyo City 188-0014) by Monday, June 5. A participant ticket will be sent to successful applicants.

Looking for Households to Accept Home Visits by International Students!

International students living in the vicinity will spend half a day at your home to engage in exchange about life in Japan, their own countries, and other topics. How about taking this opportunity to meet international students and learn about different cultures?
