20th Nishitokyo Civic Festival Coming Soon!

Venue: Nishitokyo Ikoinomori Park
There will be singing, music, dancing, Japanese drum performances, and other attractions on a stage and along the paths in the park. From 10:30 on November 12 (Sun) there will also be a parade featuring dancing and marching from the north gate of Yato Elementary School to the festival headquarters at the venue.
You will be able to enjoy sports, and there will be a play area for kids, as well as many booths selling drinks, food, vegetables, and other items. So bring your family and friends along to have fun at the Nishitokyo Civic Festival!

Acceptance of Applications for Preparatory School Entrance Expense Subsidies Begins

People who are recognized as having difficulty in paying preparatory school entrance expenses for children entering the first year of elementary or junior high school due to livelihood hardship can receive preparatory school entrance expense subsidies.
Eligibility: Persons with registered residency in Nishitokyo on December 31, 2023, who are the parents of children entering the first year of elementary or junior high school in April 2024 and who meet certain payment criteria. Applicants will be screened for their income, etc.
Amount: 54,060 yen for a child entering the first year of elementary school; 63,000 yen for a child entering the first year of junior high school
Date of payment: February 2024
Date and place for applications: November 1 (Wed) – December 28 (Thu)) at the School Affairs Section (3F, Tanashi 2nd Bldg.); December 12 (Tue) – 14 (Thu) at the Hoya East Annex Bldg.

Notice Concerning After-School Club Admissions from April 2024

After-School Clubs (Gakudo Clubs) provide extracurricular guidance to children in place of parents who are unable to take care of them after school because of work, illness, etc.
Eligibility: Children attending elementary school, etc. (only disabled children in the case of fifth and sixth graders)
Information on admission will be posted on the city website from November 9 (Thu) and will also be available at the Children and Youth Section (2F, Tanashi 2nd Bldg.), Civil Affairs Section on the 1F, Disaster Management Center and Hoya General Health and Welfare Center, Children’s Halls (Jidokan), and After-School Clubs.
Application period: December 1 (Fri) – 20 (Wed); send by post to the Children and Youth Section or take in person to the Children and Youth Section or a Children’s Hall or After-School Club. Applications will be accepted at After-School Clubs from December 6 (Wed) to 15 (Fri).

2023 Lifestyle Fest Nishitokyo City

This event will introduce culinary and environmental topics that may be useful in daily life.

Place: Consumer Center Annex
Applications are necessary for (1)–(4). In the case of many applications, successful applicants will be chosen by lottery.
(1) (Parent-child event) “Tataki-zome with Leaves” (Tataki-zome is a traditional Japanese natural dyeing technique)

(2) (Talk) “Deciding Your Own Way of Living by Yourself: My Thoughts on Volunteering in Fukushima While Parenting”

(4) (Talk) “Smartphone Basics and Disaster-Prevention Apps”
Date/time: November 26 (Sun); 13:30–15:30
Eligibility: Persons living in Nishitokyo
Capacity: 10 persons
Applications: Email the application form or send a round-trip postcard, to arrive no later than November 13 (Mon), to the Community Partnership Section at the city hall (〒188-8666), stating the event name, your address, the names of all participants (with furigana), and telephone number. In the case of (1) and (3), include the child’s school and grade. Results will be announced from November 15 (Wed).

Community Child-Raising Support Centers Lend Helping Hand to Parents

Nursery school teachers, nutritionists, and nurses will listen to your consultations, however small your concerns may be. Consultations by phone are possible too. These centers also introduce various facilities that can be used during child raising and requirements, and you can play with your child in the nursery school, so please make use of them.
